Flood in Cameroon
Flooding has worsened in the far northern region of Cameroon, with areas around Lake Maga, Mayo-Danay and Logone-et-Chari departments being worst affected. Local officials reported around 100,000 people have been affected and many families displaced, no deaths have been reported.
The Logone River broke its banks on 1 October after a period of heavy rain. The river flooded a valley in Zina district, located within Logone-et-Chari department of Far North region, causing the displacement of several communities.
Two weeks after the Logone first burst its banks, heavy rains have persisted, and on 14 October the river overflowed again affecting communities in Mayo-Danay department.
Flood waters have damaged homes, farmland and made many roads impassable isolating some villages. Cameroon's military have deployed to assist with relief efforts.
