Forest fires on the Canary Islands, Spain

The fire, which began in a mountainous area on 27 July, destroyed around 10,000 hectares of land on Gran Canaria and around 14,000 hectares on Tenerife. More than 13,000 people were evacuated from centres on the two islands, both popular tourist destinations.
