Cyclone Mekunu in Yemen

Cyclone Mekunu made landfall on the southern Arabian peninsula, bringing sustained rainfall and winds - equal to a Category 3 hurricane - to the eastern mainland of Yemen. Local reports suggest at least 7 people have died and 8 remain missing.

The districts of Hawf and Shahan of Al Maharah were affected wtih damage to infrastructure and agricultural equipment. Strong winds and surges have also sunk two ships in Al Gaydah.

Local authorities and displacement teams are currently helping over 500 displaced families in Hadibo and Qalansiyah, with many people staying in government buildings and schools.

The Yemeni island of Socotra has also been badly affected with relief efforts taking place across the island after the storm flooded villages leaving up to 30 people missing.
