Flood in Russian Federation

Unprecedented flooding has struck the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia, following heavy rains which began in July. It is estimated that approximately 32,500 people have been affected and mass evacuations have been conducted.

Emergency shelters have been set up for the 17,000 evacuees from the Amur Region, Khabarovsky Territory and the Jewish Autonomous Region. The Amur River burst its banks on 19 August, contributing to further flooding in the Amur Region.

Though no deaths have yet been reported, the flooding is reportedly the worst in over a hundred years. It is believed the flooding has reached its peak, but the rain is expected to continue in a diminished capacity until September.
