Cyclone Arnab in India

Activation status: ongoing

Severe flooding has affected parts of eastern India following Cyclone Arnab, which struck the coast on 28 October 2026. The states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have experienced heavy rainfall, causing flooding in low-lying areas.

The flooding has damaged homes, agricultural land and infrastructure, while disrupting electricity supplies and affecting local communities. More than 180,000 people were evacuated ahead of the storm, and fatalities have been reported.

Although the cyclone has weakened, continued rainfall has raised concerns about further flooding, rising river levels and landslides. Emergency response teams are carrying out rescue operations and assisting affected communities.

Satellite imagery can support disaster response by identifying flooded areas, assessing damage to infrastructure and farmland, and helping emergency services and humanitarian organisations coordinate relief efforts.
